What about Bob?

I remember saying to a friend one time, right after I said something a bit shocking, that I was just saying what everyone was thinking but was afraid to say out loud. Maybe that’s the trick to reach an audience, to confront their’s, your’s, or my deepest darkest thoughts and throw them into the face of a crowd. How do we connect as people?

This brings me to the thought I had earlier concerning this advent conspiracy that my church has been supporting for the past couple of Christmases. This idea being to give more relational gifts and spend less on crap that doesn’t last and doesn’t have any meaning and give to a bigger cause (please note I am paraphrasing a very important thing here) read more here.

Anyhoo, the church is also holding this almost free store (kinda like the Parker Street Christmas store back home) for under or low income families to come in and shop so that they can have presents under their tree. My thought, why go that far, why not promote more of an advent idea, show that gifts are not what matters, that family matters, helping a neighbor, giving to a bigger cause that will benefit not only your spoiled children but kids who don’t even know the meaning of spoil except spoiled food found in a garbage can.

I guess I have no room for an opinion until I and my family change the way we celebrate this particular holiday.

What about Bob, he is just an ordinary man who used his voice to effect people. We all have this ability to move a person toward a certain idea or thought or belief, the point is whether we take an advantage of the opportunity we are given. The question being this, am I going to take this opportunity to give to someone other than myself or will I let this Christmas pass by and taking with it my (I don’t know, What Would Jesus Buy?).

Tangent over!

Merry Christmas you spoiled brats! (JK, REALLY).
